I usually spray about three coats of nitro a day. Is it necessary to flush the gun with lacquer thinner after each coat or just at the end of the day?

I keep a canister loaded with thinner and spray for 10 sec after each coat. I have not always done this but on warm days it can save time clearing the needle. if under 80 deg, once a day would probably work.

Forgot to mention that I never empty the cup either.
Sits for several weeks some times between spraying. Just pick it up and start spraying.
Now I'm really in trouble.

I know a guy who goes for months without cleaning the cup on his gun. He has very few problems with it not working. I would not recomend this, but you can get away with leaving the lac in the gun for some time.

It is probably better to get into a good habit of cleaning your gun.

I do clean my dye gun religiously immediately after each use. Flush it and store it with a little MEK in the cup. Eliminates occasional spatter of a piece of concentrated dye when spraying. (gravity fed HVLP)
Figured I better mention this less you guys think I'm some kind of a redneck.

Dang! I just always leave a cup fulla lac in my gun as well, and never have a problem with it...'course, my shop is a hundred degrees all summer long too, so it never has a chance to set in the nozzle!

I also leave nitro in my gun for my spray sessions. One day I thought how come I don't have to worry about spray cans not working after a few days and how different is my spray gun really? Any way for me leaving lacquer in there for a week or so works fine. The gun gets a good cleaning after however.

I am a redneck, but I spray 3 coats of laq 35 to 45 min apart and clean up my equipment after I am finished. Never saw any need to clean between coats.
